Pygmy goats

( Capra hircus )

The pygmy goats are very tame and love to interact. You are welcome to feed the goats, but only with the feed that can be purchased in the park. African pygmy goats are domesticated animals and are originally from Africa but have been exported to large parts of Europe and the USA, for example, as zoo animals. Their small size and gentle nature make them great petting animals, helping to create a more engaging experience for our youngest visitors.

The residents

At Scandinavian Wildlife Park, we have a small group of goats, all of which are very gentle and tame. Visitors are welcome to feed them, but only with the feed available for purchase in the park.
One might wonder why we have African pygmy goats in Scandinavian Wildlife Park, and they are actually the animal that stands out the most from the other Nordic and Scandinavian species that live in the park. However, goats are among the earliest domesticated animals, and have always been a part of Scandinavian culture.

In addition to the goats representing part of the cultural heritage, they also serve another purpose: to provide a present experience for the park’s youngest visitors, who often use multiple senses in their experience of the world. The obvious choice of species would have been the Danish domesticaded goat, but since they are too big and impatient with our youngest guests, the African pygmy goats have moved in instead.
